GMS began operations in 1971 in Atlanta, Georgia.

GMS was founded by two partners who prided themselves in building a company comprised of local subsidiary partners who had a vested interest in their business and local communities. GMS operates a network of more than 220 distribution centers in the U.S. and Canada with the partnership of more than 50 subsidiaries. Leading Edge Insulation Services is one of those subsidiaries and it operates independently with local management to best respond to the needs of its customers and market.

GMS is the largest independent distributor of drywall products in the United States and Canada. We are also a leading distributor of steel framing, insulation, acoustical ceilings, EIFS, joint treatment and a broad range of tools and accessories used in both commercial and residential applications. Currently, GMS and its subsidiary companies distribute over 20,000 unique products, including fasteners, access panels, fire stops, lumber, FRP and surface protection.
